Max Verstappen believes that he was held in the pitlane for too long in qualifying which prevented him from setting a faster lap time. The Dutch driver qualified in fifth for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix but reckons he could have gone quicker had he gotten the chance.
Verstappen said that he felt he was kept in the pits for too long before going on his final run in Q3 which cost him vital tyre temperature, something that has proved hugely important in relation to lap time throughout the weekend.
"We have been waiting in the pits for too long.
"We tried to get a tow from someone and because of that we were waiting in the garage for too long without the heating on the tyres.
"The front tyres did not work optimally in the final run and on a street circuit that is a bigger penalty.
"But in the end, things weren’t too bad. We start from a good fighting postion and a lot can happen during the race."
