FIA Stewards have accepted Williams' petition to review.

Carlos Sainz vs Liam Lawson at Zandvoort

The FIA Stewards have reviewed Williams' petition to review, and have admitted it, as it has been revealed in an FIA document.

The document states William presented three new elements as key evidence, with two of those being videos from the 360° camera on Sainz's car, and the rear facing camera on Liam Lawson's Racing Bulls car, with the third piece of evidence being Carlos Sainz's testimony.

"Having found that the footage from the rear facing camera and the 360° camera on Car 30 satisfies all of the Review Criteria, the Stewards decided to re-examine the Decision," the document reads.

F1 deducts two penalty points from Sainz's super license

During the Dutch Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz found himself en route for a strong points finish. Nevertheless when he and Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson were battling for position, the Spaniard decided to stuck it around the outside and with Liam Lawson opening up the wheel on exit, Sainz and Lawson had contact which resulted in a puncture for both drivers, as well as a 10-second time penalty and 2 added points to his license.

The time penalty cannot be contested now, since Sinz already served it in the race, but the two penalty points have been overridden, which was the case Sainz is arguing for.

"Having considered the matter extensively and having reviewed the new video evidence and heard from the drivers of both cars and their team representatives, the Stewards determine to rescind the Decision," the document reads. "The Stewards agree with Williams’ characterisation of the collision as a racing incident."

"The time penalty imposed by the Decision was served by Car 55 during the race," the Stewards' verdict read. "The Stewards have no power to remedy that served time penalty by amending the Classifications but note that the gap between Car 55 to the car ahead in the Final Classification of the race (coincidently Car 30) was 17 seconds.

"The Decision having been rescinded, it follows that the 2 penalty points imposed on the Driver of Car 55 are to be removed."

F1 Drivers' guidelines still give much to talk about

In recent times, F1 driver guidlines have given a lot to talk about with incidents being reported to have been judged inconsitently by race officials, prompting requests for the FIA to pay Stewards a salary, and to establish a fixed body of Stewards, instead of a rotating one who do it as volunteer work.

Despite many discussions also on the way on track battles should be policed, the F1 community seems to be divided between the need for clarity, and the potential ambiguity of natural, freer racing.
