Peter Windsor thinks it's good that Max Verstappen has decided to stay with Red Bull Racing. The Australian was asked in a livestream on his YouTube channel whether it was really a good decision, as the Austrian team's 'car development has been really bad'. However, Windsor thinks this is not the case.
Windsor said: "Oh, it doesn't say much for our friends at Red Bull, does it? The technical department, the engineering department there, give them a break. I mean, they have won a few Grand Prix this year, haven't they? They're not that bad."
The analyst continued: "They're just not very good at the moment, obviously, on circuits with lots of slow corners and traction and getting both front and the rear of the car to work."
"But show them a circuit with a reasonable number of medium high-speed corners. Well, medium, they don't have that many high-speed corners anyway, but medium-speed corners. And it will be half reasonable."
Finally, Windsor said: "They can't do much in the August break. The whole point is that they actually have a break. But there's still a long way to go. And I'm not being sort of, 'well, let's hope for the best'."
"But it would be astonishing if Red Bull stay where they were in Hungary for the rest of the year. I just don't believe that's going to happen."
The results in Hungary were disappointing for Red Bull and Verstappen. The Dutchman finished eighth in the qualification and even ninth in the race. Yuki Tsunoda didn't score any points on the Hungaroring.
In the championship, Verstappen is not as bad off as the race in Hungary suggested. The Red Bull Racing driver has repeatedly stated that he is not participating for the title, but he is currently third in the championship. Red Bull Racing itself is in P4 among the constructors, mainly because of the points scored by the four-time world champion.
