That Toto Wolff and Christian Horner were not friends is no secret. The CEO and team principal of Mercedes sometimes had a horrible aversion to the now-dismissed team boss of Red Bull Racing. However, the Austrian does miss his former rival a bit, as he has repeated again.
More than once there were digs and even open criticism from one to the other. The rivalry between Horner and Wolff was certainly not feigned.
Looking back, Wolff tells the Hungarian Formula.hu: "What do I think? Well, he's been acting like a jerk quite often in the last 12-15 years. He operates on completely different values, but even your worst enemy has a best friend."
Wolff also admits that Horner was 'hugely successful' with Red Bull. "Now that he's gone, at least for a while, a real personality has left the sport. He was controversial and divisive, but he was one of the protagonists here. You could safely say he was as significant as a great driver."
According to Wolff, Horner's departure is a loss for the sport as a whole. The Austrian rightly points out that the 'dinosaurs' - as he jokingly calls old team bosses - have all but disappeared except for him. Or well, perhaps Frederic Vasseur, laughs the team principal of Mercedes afterwards. He's still there.
