The only strange thing is that McLaren put this performance gap on the field in the 4th year of the same regulation set. Max quali lap was a full second faster this year than in 2024, so they are not standing either. Finding that much performance is a bit weird but congrats to them, now I just hope that Piastri and Norris will lock horns a few times and we will have quite a few rainy Sundays to keep things interesting.05-05-2025 11:43

He did plenty of “top of midfield racing” in the 10 seasons in F1. RBR gave him a dominant car for 2 seasons only and now they are in a free fall. He wants a car what he can race for Ws not for off the podium spots…18-04-2025 12:12

I voted yes, he’s still in it, because he’s a bloodhound and collecting the points whatever the circumstances allow him to. Of course he’s not happy after the dominant ‘22 and ‘23 season. None of the drivers would be happy going from collecting Ws to fighting for off the podium positions. If they are, it’s time to put down the helmet and gloves and let other drivers get a crack at it.14-04-2025 23:38

Maybe I’m wrong, but my gut feeling is that the whole team is fed up with Horner. Car is not performing, slow pit stops, updates are not working, seems like when a “team stop playing for their coach”. RBR giving very little time for drivers to prove themselves, Mr Horner was given a whole winter season to turn things around, with not much to show for right now. He said many times; F1 is a performance based sport, well he’s not really performing lately, is he?14-04-2025 10:50

That last lap of lock up by Norris showed how close to the limit they were driving. MCL should’ve split the strategy, I think they were a bit too confident in their car’s superiority. Maybe I’m wrong, but looks like RBR still has a bit of advantage with downforce from the floor, just enough to keep his tires alive in clean air.06-04-2025 13:37

And that’s how it’s done!!! What a drive, he really needed this. That pit lane exit….06-04-2025 08:49

I’m a Max fan, but this one qualy lap won’t make him the GOAT. As he said; he just let it go and hoped it would stick in at least 5 or 6 very critical corners. He could’ve had the same result as The Jeddah 2021 qualy lap. Lots of people said that was the greatest lap of all times until it wasn’t. I’m afraid, Max is getting more and more frustrated as the weekends goes by, and no improvement with the car. This time he channeled his frustration into a great lap. That’s all there is to it.06-04-2025 00:30

Great lap throwing caution out of the window, but it I’m really worried of his race pace/tire deg for the race. At this point, I’m really hoping that the front wing clamp down will give a bit of headache for the other teams with balancing their cars and will bring them back a bit closer to Max. Looks like RBR just threading water and can’t get these balance issues sorted05-04-2025 15:16

It’s shocking how big of a mess RBR became for the last year of these regulations. While others were lost at the beginning and they were literally drove circles around them, this year RBR is in a downward spiral. I know it’s just FP1 and 2, but it is alarming. Hey Horner; are you missing Newey much?04-04-2025 12:24

Also they can start searching for another driver; Max won’t stick around with bad aero department and unknown engine. At least they had a bit of aero advantage until Adrian Newey was around. That’s gone now and the new Ford engine is a huge question mark.28-03-2025 03:06
