For the first time since the Australian GP, Lando Norris won a Grand Prix in Formula 1, and as a result, he now trails Oscar Piastri by only three points in the standings. It was the Briton's sixth victory in the competition. Piastri finished in P3, behind the home favourite Charles Leclerc.
While Max Verstappen waited to complete his second stop for a long time, it did not pay off, and he finished in fourth position. Lewis Hamilton could overcut two drivers thanks to a great first pit stop by the Ferrari crew, and the seven-time world champion finished in P5.
Already a lap down, Isack Hadjar finished in P6, and Liam Lawson also scored his first points of the season finishing in P8. It was Esteban Ocon who separated the two Racing Bulls cars.
The two Williams drivers completed the Top 10, in the order of Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz.

As it happened

Norris locked up after the start into Sainte Devote, however he could keep the lead against Leclerc, and Piastri could also remain in P3 ahead of Verstappen.
Bortoleto pulled off an impressive move on Antonelli in the hairpin, but a couple of corners later, he crashed into the wall in Portier. He could reverse out of the wall, but the VSC button was pushed by the race control.
After the VSC ended, the second crash followed on Lap 9. Pierre Gasly returned to the pit lane on three working wheels only, after the Frenchman hit Tsunoda's right-rear tyre from behind ahead of the Nouvelle Chicane. After this incident, only the yellow flag was waved, and the pit lane was closed for a couple of laps.

Verstappen was also upset with Piastri, who closed the door on him after he tried to overtake him after the yellow flag period ended.

The first stops with Racing Bulls and Williams trickery

On Lap 15, Liam Lawson held up the drivers behind so Isack Hadjar can pit. Fernando Alonso reacted a couple of laps later, but he could not overcut the Racing Bulls driver, unlike Lewis Hamilton, who could gain two positions with some great laps and a great job by the Ferrari pit crew.
From the lead, Norris completed his first stop on Lap 20. The same lap, Hadjar also completed his second mandatory pit stop, with Lawson continuing to hold up everyone behind him.
On Lap 21, Piastri pitted to overtake Leclerc, however, the Australian had a slow stop. Leclerc completed his first stop on Lap 23, and returned to the track ahead of the McLaren driver. Inheriting the lead, Verstappen pitted on Lap 29, and remained in his original fourth position.
On Lap 38, Fernando Alonso's bad luck in the 2025 season continued, as the Spaniard had an engine issue and had to retire from the Grand Prix.
On Lap 44, Williams flipped the script, with now Albon, who completed his two stops, holding up the rest of the grid for Sainz. James Vowles as a result continued to cause a headache for his former boss, Toto Wolff, as the two Mercedes drivers were yet to pit at this point, stuck in P11 and P12.

The second stops at the front

Oscar Piastri completed his second stop on Lap 49, with the Australian trying to undercut Leclerc. The Monegasque driver reacted a lap later, and they were also looking ahead to overtake the other McLaren, Norris, but the British driver could return to the track ahead of the Ferrari as well.
Meanwhile, Russell also managed to get past Albon in the Nouvelle Chicane with being investigated for corner cutting, as he did not really care about making the corner itself. The Mercedes driver decided not to return the position, and take the penalty instead. The stewards however gave him a drive through penalty instead of a five-second penalty.
By Lap 58, Norris caught up to Verstappen on track, who was yet to complete his second mandatory stop, and as a result, Leclerc also caught up to the two.
The Dutchman eventually pitted on ahead of the final lap, as their desired red flag never arrived.
