The Mexico City Grand Prix has signed a three-year extension with Formula 1 until 2028, solidifying its spot on the calendar. Announced on Wednesday, Formula 1 and the Mexico City Grand Prix's organisers have agreed to extend the Grand Prix's spot on the F1 calendar for another three years.
The Mexican Grand Prix is held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The circuit hosted its first Grand Prix in 1962, a non Championship race, before returning next year as part of the calendar. It returned in 2015 after leaving the calendar in 1992. Due to the pandemic, the Mexican Grand Prix was not held in 2020, but has been ever since.
What does this mean for the 2026 F1 calendar?
With Mexico securing the last spot in what is set to be a 24 race calendar again in 2026, this means that the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix will have to make way, as the new race in Madrid will now be a part of the calendar as of next year. When it will take place however, will be announce shortly. The organisers of the race at the Madring track were waiting for confirmation on the Mexican's race extension before making an announcement.
