The start of the Formula 2 main race in Monte-Carlo on Sunday morning went terribly wrong. A collision between pole starter Alex Dunne and Victor Martins at the entrance of turn 1 triggered a massive chain reaction, eliminating half of the grid.
The start of the main race in Monaco for Formula 2 was particularly chaotic. Dunne had a bad start from pole position, allowing Martins to see an opportunity to overtake him by going outside at Sainte Devote. The Frenchman didn't get the chance to complete the move, as Dunne crashed into the rear wheel of Martins' DAMS, sending both into the barriers.

Exit Verschoor and ten other F2 drivers

What followed was a genuine chain reaction of crashes among the drivers, including Richard Verschoor. The Dutch driver couldn't avoid the blockade caused by the two leaders on the narrow street circuit in time and damaged his front wheel so severely that he had to retire. He wasn't the only one, as no less than 11 drivers found themselves on the list of retirements after just one lap. The red flag was waved immediately after the incident.
Starting third, Leonardo Fornaroli was the luckiest to emerge from the incident. The Italian managed to avoid the chaos and will therefore lead the much-reduced field at the restart. The race is set to restart at 10:28 (local time).
