It was a very unfortunate fall, immediately after NASCAR driver Connor Zilisch had won the Xfinity race in Watkins Glen just over a week ago. When celebrating the victory, the Red Bull driver fell, causing him to lose consciousness. It later turned out that the American had broken his collarbone.
A day later, Zilisch was unable to participate in the Sprint Cup race on the same circuit. Whether the nineteen-year-old driver will be able to race in the next race seems very uncertain even now. This race will take place in a week's time.
"Yes, we are still discussing the next steps with all the doctors, but I am motivated by Shane (van Gisbergen), my teammate," Zilisch told NBC Sports. "He had a plate inserted (in 2021) and raced the following weekend."
"So I don't know if I will be that quick, but hopefully my young bones heal fast and I can race again as soon as possible."
Red Bull is the driving force behind one of Trackhouse Racing's NASCAR cars this season, with Zilisch as the Austrian beverage giant's driver. The American is also officially a Red Bull athlete, so he is backed by the company.
For Red Bull, NASCAR is an ideal way to increase visibility in the United States. This has already happened with the Formula 1 team of Max Verstappen, as F1 is now very hot in the US.
