Lando Norris brought an end to Max Verstappen’s reign as world champion with his podium finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The McLaren driver, who headed into the weekend in Yas Marina with a 12-point lead over the Red Bull Racing star, finished in third place to claim the drivers’ crown by just two points.

Norris also finished ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri, who had led the championship for much of the season, to become the first McLaren driver since 2008 to win a drivers’ title.
The 26-year-old, visibly over the moon with his achievement, also hinted at how he plans to celebrate his first world title.
While it is a moment of elation and ecstasy for Norris and McLaren, Red Bull Racing have been hit with uncertainty over Helmut Marko’s future.
The 82-year-old advisor at the Milton Keynes-based outfit stated, in the aftermath of the Abu Dhabi race, that he would like to assess his future before making a decision about his continuity with the team.

Marko, in his role, has been integral to the success of Red Bull Racing, including bringing through several young drivers, such as Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel, both of whom have gone on to become world champions.
