Following the removal of the Argentinian Grand Prix from the 2026 MotoGP calendar, construction efforts are underway in the country's capital to create a new circuit which will feature in future MotoGP seasons.
Many fans were disappointed when it was announced that the popular Termas de Rio Hondo circuit would not feature as part of the 2026 MotoGP calendar, but there is some positive news on the horizon for fans in Argentina.
Having been replaced by a new Brazilian Grand Prix round in Goiania, just in time for Sao Paolo-born rookie Diogo Moreira to make a home appearance, the Argentinian Grand Prix has had to take a back seat for the time being.
However, a new video has emerged showing the construction efforts underway at the Buenos Aires Autodrome, which is currently under rennovation to host MotoGP races from 2027 onwards.
While the Termas circuit was popular among fans and riders alike for its high speed straights and long, fast corners, the location is being moved largely due to logistical concerns with the hopes that Buenos Aires will be able to attract a larger audience.
City mayor Jorge Macri also has ambitions for the track to host Formula 1 events in the future.
"We are working on modernizing the racetrack not only to host MotoGP, but also, in the future, Formula 1," he said, "Every time an international racing series races here, the city receives an investment of over $150 million. This means jobs for the residents of Buenos Aires and is part of our plan to continue developing the southern part of the city."
The move also follows the reports that 2026 could be the final year in which MotoGP hosts races at the popular Philip Island track. Australian media reported 'demands' of Dorna to move the event to the Albert Park circuit.
