Honda have impressed in pre-season with their good pace and seemingly impeccable reliability, but
Fernando Alonso has warned that one test is not the same as running 21 Grands Prix.
Alonso had a well-known sour relationship with the Japanese engine partner for the last three years, when they were providing Alonso's team
McLaren with their power. McLaren forced a move from Honda to Renault, swapping partners with Toro Rosso.
Ironically, in pre-season testing, the latter seemed to be having a better pre-season, as Toro Rosso used just one engine for the last week where McLaren were forced to swap theirs twice. Alonso however still has doubts whether or not Honda can keep this up for an entire season.
"I have no problem with Honda," the two-time champion started saying, "they had a good winter test, and if they can finish top five in the season as well, I'll be glad for them."
"But I don't think that will happen. One test is not the same as 21 races with three engines."
Talking about his current power source of Renault, Alonso seemed happy, while also having a go at Honda.
"We are very happy with our work with Renault. Compared to last year, we are up to four seconds faster per lap.”
