The Aston Martin team has had a disappointing season so far. This weekend, the team will bring updates to Imola, but if they do not work, the focus will shift to 2026, as team boss Andy Cowell announced to GPblog among others.
New wind tunnel expected to drive progress
Aston Martin has recently acquired a new wind tunnel, and it is expected to improve performances beyond the previous races.
Adrian Newey previously expressed his happiness with the move to the new wind tunnel, Cowell comments as follows:
''It's a step, the floor and part of the body were done from December to the first race in Melbourne this year, so most of the development work was mainly in the old wind tunnel. Also, part of the team was working on the car for 2026. The last bits of these upgrades were done in the new wind tunnel and these were also the first.''
Aston Martin hopes the updates will also work on the circuit, but that remains to be seen. ''It's important that what we see in the new wind tunnel corresponds with what we are going to see on the circuit. The car is different on the track and reacts more rigidly, also because of the bumps and turns on the track. I wonder if there is any team where the wind tunnel 100% corresponds with the circuit.''
