Although the summer break is now in full swing, the next race is steadily approaching. The Dutch Grand Prix will take place in Zandvoort on August 31st, and Martin Brundle looks forward to the fifteenth round of the season.
In conversation with Formula 1 Magazine, Sky Sports commentator and reporter Martin Brundle discussed the charm of the Dutch circuit, which is often praised by the drivers such as Lewis Hamilton.
Brundle himself drove at Zandvoort during his career, but the circuit then looked substantially different: “Driving in Zandvoort was always fun, a beautiful circuit in the dunes. It was a longer track than it is now, with more flow and of course the Tarzan corner. Exciting, a real challenge.''
''The scary thing about that circuit was that it could be dangerous in places. But that was the case everywhere at that time, if you flew off the track."
Brundle saddened by Zandvoort circuit's modifications
The circuit as we know it today is completely different from the past. Brundle understands that the circuit has been modified, but believes that it has come at the expense of several aspects: “I have never driven on the new circuit, but when I look at the layout I see that the important corners still exist.''
''The 'banking' in some corners is also special. But yes, they had to shorten parts of the track in Zandvoort. That is a shame. Roughly speaking, you need fewer balls as a driver to drive there than in the past."
As mentioned, the Dutch GP is scheduled for Sunday, August 31. In last year’s edition, Lando Norris took the victory, while Max Verstappen won the three editions prior.
The upcoming race will be the penultimate Dutch GP, as the 2026 weekend will mark the final Formula 1 event at Zandvoort, which will also feature a sprint race.
