Since 2021, no Grand Prix has been held in Germany. The last race was held on the Hockenheim circuit in 2019, while Formula 1 was in action at the Nürburgring in 2020. In conversation with Sport Bild, Stefano Domenicali emphasized that he would like to see a German Grand Prix return to the Formula 1 calendar.
Actually, after 2019, no races were supposed to be held in Germany. The last race at the Hockenheim circuit took place then. Yet, Germany unexpectedly got a spot on the Formula 1 calendar in 2020. Due to Covid measures, the Nürburgring made a one-time return to the F1 as the Eiffel Grand Prix.
After that, Germany was no longer on the calendar. Since then, there have been no serious attempts to get a German Grand Prix back into Formula 1. The CEO of the Formula One Group, Stefano Domenicali, however, said he would like to see a Grand Prix in Germany again.
When asked how much money needs to be put on the table for Germany's return to the calendar, Domenicali replied: "Money is secondary for now. The primary thing is that we know who we actually need to talk to. We are ready to have discussions."
Domenicali continued: "Germany is Germany and therefore belongs in Formula 1, so if someone has serious interest, they will find a way to contact me. But time is pressing. There is a long waiting list of companies and even countries, with their prime ministers and kings, who are eager to host a race,"
From 2027 onwards, the Dutch Grand Prix will no longer be on the calendar. As other races, such as the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, are also disappearing, there may be room for Germany to claim a spot in Formula 1. So far there have been no discussions.
