Double deal for Mick Schumacher? Here's what's going on!

Mick Schumacher has been out of the Formula 1 for nearly three seasons now, but the son of former world champion Michael Schumacher hasn't ruled out a comeback yet. The German has his sights set on a seat with Cadillac, but that seems to be a difficult story to materialise.

Cadillac reached an agreement with Valtteri Bottas on the terms of a contract with the new F1 team a while ago. Last week, a British media outlet reported that the same applies to Sergio Perez.

This could mean two things; Cadillac wants to know if a deal with both drivers is possible, after which a choice will be made for one of them. Regardless of arrangements, in that case, either Bottas or Perez could still miss out on a seat with the American team.

Will Cadillac opt for two experienced drivers?

It's also very possible that Cadillac will hit the starting line in 2026 with both Bottas and Perez. These are two experienced drivers, who with all their accumulated knowledge and expertise can currently best help Cadillac move forward.

If Cadillac indeed wants to race with the veterans, it automatically means that there is no place for Mick Schumacher.

Schumacher as a reserve at Cadillac?

Various media suggested last week that in that case, Schumacher could work as a test and reserve driver for Cadillac, but this is not true. GPblog can confirm a report from F1-Insider after investigation.

The link between Schumacher and Cadillac emerged after it was revealed that the German is being considered to race with Jota - essentially Cadillac's factory team - in the World Endurance Championship in '26. Indeed, the current Alpine driver is a candidate there, but this has nothing to do with a reserve role for the F1 team.
