George Russell and Mercedes, were facing a bit of a curse-like situation, which they have now reverted following the elimination of a sensible and provider of the team's biggest success of the year W16 car part.
Although highly effective in Canada, carrying the team to its best result of the year with Russell and teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli taking the chequered flag in P1 and P3 respectively, it lost its kindness since with the team unable to return to podium scoring form in all the races that followed... Until its extrication prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix, Russell revealed.
Explaining the reason for his success, the Brit was unequivocal.
"We reverted on some of the items we brought."
"Early in the season we brought a new rear suspension that clearly wasn't performing as we'd have hoped."
Regardless, Russell is not deterred from Mercedes' current reality by the positivity of the result in Hungary.
"But it was also a pretty unique weekend.
"You see the results by McLaren, and it was quite an unusual finishing order from P3 down.
"Obviously, Max was quite out of position. The Astons had a really strong race weekend as well," Russell elaborated.
"So, I don't think we should get carried away with the result. But, clearly, in terms of pace, it was our best race of the season bar Canada."
