Round seven of the 2025 Formula 1 season brought the F1 circus to Europe for the first time in the campaign, with teams and drivers looking to find some early pace around the iconic Imola circuit.

However, as has been the case so far this season, with McLaren holding a massive lead in the constructors' championship coming into the weekend, it was the British team who were clearly the team to beat.

Fastest laps were exchanged in the opening 20 minutes of the session as the track evolved, but it was Piastri, the championship leader, who set the tone with a 1.16.545, +0.032 quicker than teammate Norris.

Behind the two papaya-coloured cars was Carlos Sainz in his Williams, impressive around Imola wth a fine P3 finish ahead of George Russell, who held P1 for some time in the session.

Lewis Hamilton took P5 in Ferrari's first of two races this season, while Pierre Gasly in the Alpine found his way to P6 ahead of Max Verstappen in the Red Bull, a disappointing session for the Dutchman.

Alex Albon ended the session in eighth place, while the two Saubers became the surprise of the session, with Gabriel Borotleto and Nico Hulkenberg taking P9 and P10, respectively.

Unfortunately, Bortoleto ended the session in the barriers, ending FP1 with a minute and a half left after a positive hour-long session.

Outside of the top ten, Charles Leclerc and Kimi Antonelli could only come P12 and P13, respectively, while Yuki Tsunoda came all the way down in P16 in his RB21.
