Carlos Sainz sr. world rally champion and father of F1 Williams driver Carlos Sainz, is considering entering the FIA presidential race. Frederic Vasseur, Tim Goss and Andrea Stella weigh in on the impact of the Spaniard's potential decision.
Whilst Sainz sr.'s candidacy remains an uncertainty since it hasn't been announced officially, certain paddock figures like Max Verstappen for instance, have seen with kind eyes the Spaniard's election run against FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

F1 team bosses don't want to weigh in on Sainz Sr's potential candidacy

During the FIA team representatives' press conference, where GPblog present, Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur did not want to reveal his stance on the matter. "I have a huge respect for Carlos Senior, I worked with him a couple of times in my life, but then I don't want to enter in position, and it's not my job to take position on the election. I have a huge respect for him, but it's another matter."
For Andrea Stella, McLaren team boss, it was a similar approach. "To be honest, I don't have much to comment. I think it's a matter that has a lot of subtleties. What's important for me is that we have a good process and it will lead to the best interest of FIA, F1, it's very, very important that we have proper governance and great leadership from the institution that leads the sport."
Tim Goss, Chief Technical Officer of Racing Bulls, who himself served as the FIA's Technical Director until early last year, follows the lead of the former two interviewees. "Everything I was involved with was kind of mainly outside of the presidential activities and the Senate. And what I can say is that from my experience there, the governance side of it under Nicholas Tombazis and Francois Sicard and now Jan replacing me."
"That's a great team and it is a very difficult job but they do a really fantastic job of it. Not just going on their own, sometimes you actually have to force things through but most the time, we tried to work very collaboratively with the teams."
"But on Carlos, I'm afraid I don't know him particularly well so I can't really comment."
