Imola is a very challenging and technical track with the high speeds and the narrow aspect of the track demanding excellence from the drivers and their cars. For Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen their Ferrari and Red Bull cars respectively are not up to the challenge at the legendary track. Verstappen not being happy with his Red Bull is nothing new, but at Imola with the upgrades implemented by
Red Bull Racing an improvement was expected.
Nevertheless after complaining about a lack of grip in FP1 the problems for the Dutchman are compounding.
The Dutchman complained of 'bottoming heavily' into Turn 11, a problem he claimed to have mentioned before to the Red Bull garage. Verstappen's car doesn't only have issues but it is also not quick enough to fight for the top prizes. He currently sits in P5.
Hamilton and Leclerc complain about brake issues
Whilst Hamilton had previously complained about his brakes in FP1, for FP2 his sensation upon braking did not change. If anything they became more drastic. 'The car's not stopping', said Hamilton before concluding that 'these brakes are a problem, mate', said the Briton during FP2.
His temmate Leclerc echoed the 7-time world champion's words as he said that the brakes whilst on 'warm-up mode' were terribly. 'They don't stop the car at all'.
So, plenty of work ahead for both teams ahead of the relevant sessions on Saturday and Sunday.
