As always, let’s take a look at the two main Formula 1 news stories from today, Wednesday, 3 September.
Cadillac is set to become the 11th team on the Formula 1 grid next year, and has previously announced experienced drivers Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez as its full-time competitors for its debut campaign in the competition.
Joining from the IndyCar series, it is now also official that Colton Herta will be Cadillac's test driver for the upcoming campaign. It is also official that he will no longer compete in IndyCar next year.
"I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Cadillac Formula 1 Team as a Test Driver. This is a dream opportunity, and one I’ve been working towards for a long time. To be part of Cadillac F1’s entry at such a pivotal time is something I couldn’t pass up," Herta began in the team's press release about this next opportunity.
"My dream has always been to race in Formula 1, and I see this move as a huge step towards that goal. For now, my focus is on giving everything I can to Cadillac F1, helping build a competitive team.”
McLaren has figured out why Lando Norris was forced to retire during the Dutch Grand Prix. Investigation at the British team's factory has revealed a cause different from what was initially assumed by many.
Lando Norris seemed to be on track for second place in the Dutch Grand Prix behind teammate Oscar Piastrilast Sunday. However, a defect in his McLaren in the absolute final stage of the race caused Norris to drop out, hence losing valuable points in the fight for the world title.
Andrea Stella, the team boss of McLaren, could not indicate what the problem was after the race. The Italian did suggest that indicators were pointing in a specific direction. Before any further statements were made about the cause, McLaren wanted to conduct further investigation.
GPblog can now report that there was no problem with Norris' engine. In the factory of the reigning constructor champion, it has emerged that a problem on the chassis side was identified. What exactly this problem is, however unclear.
