The British Grand Prix is set to take place between 4 - 6 July and British authorities are warning fans to not let their weekend full of F1 action be derailed. The British Grand Prix is one of the most sought after events in the UK, with the race weekend averaging an attendance rate of 480,000 people in recent years. As such there are ever risks, such as the sale of counterfeit tickets.
Counterfeiting and safety measures in place for British Grand Prix
The public is being warned by Northamptonshire police regarding several forms of counterfeiting popping up on social media claiming to have real tickets available for sale and has advised F1 fans not to come to the track without a ticket.
Authorities have also discouraged any wrong-doers from showing up at the track as there will be uniformed and undercover police officers patroling the circuit and its surroundings. They will also count with the presence of armed officers, search teams and Automatic Number Plate recognition units.
But that's not all, to ensure public safety the Northamptonshire police department has also revealed live facial recognition technology will be brought to
Silverstone. It scans biometrics against people on watch lists and with outstanding warrants for their arrest, for instance.
Supt Pete Basham said: "I would urge people to be aware of potential counterfeit tickets being sold, particularly on social media platforms, and I would strongly advise against coming to the event if you don’t have a ticket."
"We are working closely with the event organisers, other emergency services and partner agencies as the event approaches, to ensure Formula 1 fans have a safe and enjoyable experience, and that anyone looking to commit a crime doesn't succeed."
