Although the clock continues to tick the years away, Fernando Alonso's ability and hunger seem to have been frozen in time, and former F1 driver Romain Grosjean thinks he knows why.

"Definitely a very impressive driver. Always here. When the car is good, you can count on Fernando."

Alonso has made a name for himself, aside from his remarkable career in motorsport, for being the F1 grid's 'grandad' driver - not for nothing he got a cain for Christmans during F1's secret Santa reveal in Abu Dhabi.

Yet, his performance, execution and race craft remains untouched to this day, and former Haas F1 driver Grosjean thinks he knows the reason behind the Spaniard's sporting longevity.

"Yeah, Fernando is 25 years old," the Frenchman told Sport.de. "I think, at least in his head, he's never aged.

"He still has the same passion that he had when he was world champion back in 2005," Grosjean added.

Alonso is a driver 'you can count on'

"Yeah, it's very impressive to see that. He's a driver that is very intelligent in the way he manages his agenda, his schedule, his travel plans. Everything is done at the start of the year, so he knows how smooth it's going to go. And I think that's part of why he's got that longevity.

That, plus raw relentless talent is the combination that provides the grid with the standout 44 year-old driver's performance. "But yeah, definitely a very impressive driver. Always here. When the car is good, you can count on Fernando," Grosjean concluded.

'Alonso set to become a dad in 2026'

Fernando Alonso and his longtime girlfriend, journalist Melissa Jimenez, are expecting their first child together in March 2026, according to Hola!. Read the full story here.
