Ferrari ready to break with the past following underwhelming 2025 season

Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur is keen to keep his feet firmly on the ground when it comes to making predictions for 2026.

“I want to focus on the team, on developing the car, on the collaboration between Lewis and Charles, and on getting the very best out of what we have”
- Frederic Vasseur

Ferrari started the season with the ambition of fighting for both championships, buoyed by the momentum of the previous year, when they came agonisingly close to bringing the constructors’ title back to Maranello, only to lose out to McLaren at the final round.

When it was suggested to him that staying quiet last winter might have been wiser to avoid raising expectations among the fans, the Frenchman told Sky Sport Italy: “Honestly, it’s a different approach. Last year, when you started the season, you already had Abu Dhabi 2024 in mind.

“This year, no one really knows. We can spend time debating, drawing up strategies or talking about others, but the truth is we simply don’t know. That’s why I don’t want to waste energy on that. I want to focus on the team, on developing the car, on the collaboration between Lewis and Charles, and on getting the very best out of what we have.”

Ferrari's potential back-up plan to Vasseur breaks silence on takeover talk

Vasseur came under scrutiny over the summer, partly as Ferrari’s results were slow to arrive, with WEC boss Antonello Coletta emerging as one of the names floated as a potential alternative. In the end, however, Ferrari opted to stand by Vasseur, renewing his contract as it neared its expiration.

However, while Ferrari enjoyed a hugely successful campaign in the World Endurance Championship — securing both titles and clinching a third consecutive victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans — the picture was far less rosy in Formula 1, where the Scuderia could do no better than fourth in the constructors’ standings.

Here is how Coletta responded to the rumours of a possible swap with Vasseur.
