Ahead of the on-track activity on Friday, Ferrari were less than hopeful of their chances in Monaco. However Charles Leclerc ended up topping FP1 and FP2 well away from the reach of McLaren and Red Bull Racing, which didn't surprise Helmut Marko.
Both Leclerc and Ferrari deputy team principal Jerome d'Ambrosio pointed to Ferrari's low speed cornering as a weakness. However, when it came the time to put lap times on the board, the Monegasque and his SF-25 were particularly quick.
Speaking to GPblog among others, Red Bull Racing's chief advisor was not surprised at all by the pace shown by the Scuderia at Monte-Carlo.
"First of all, Charles is always fast here," he said. Indeed, since Leclerc has achieved the most pole positions at Monaco in the past four editions of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Ferrari's soft setup makes them strong in Monaco

A rumoured weakness for the Scuderia has often been the ride height, as it is believed that the rear suspension of the SF-25, upon load, collapses, subjecting the skid to excessive wear.
Lewis Hamilton and Leclerc were disqualified at China for excessive plank wear, which it is said to have forced Ferrari to increase their ride height at which they run their car, at the cost of overall performance, which did not seem to affect them much in Imola, and it looks to be the case in Monaco as well.
"The Ferrari, I think the ride height they are using, it doesn't make so much difference to them. They're always going with the same sort of ride height and that is of course on a circuit like here a good advantage. It's a relatively soft setup," concluded Marko.
For the Austrian, though, Red Bull's fight at Monte-Carlo isn't so much with the Maranello-based squad, but with McLaren, and Marko himself is optimistic regarding their chances to beat the papaya coloured team at the principality.
