Adrian Newey is no stranger to what makes Max Verstappen tick, having worked with the Dutchman for eight years, and according to the acclaimed designer that is a fast car, nothing more, nothing less. Verstappen has been linked repeatedly to a move to Aston Martin where he could reunite with Japanese manufacturer Honda, but also with the mythical designer with whom he worked at Red Bull Racing for eight years, Newey.
For the first time since joining Aston Martin, Newey has responded to the rumours that place Verstappen in the British racing green coloured team. And for the British engineer the circumnstances that could result in a switch from Red Bull Racing to Aston Martin are fairly simple.
Newey knows what it takes to get Verstappen to Aston Martin
As quoted by Motorsport, Newey believes that Verstappen is a fairly simple character, despite his vast talent. "Max is clearly a phenomenal talent, and he's a supreme competitor, and part of that means that Max likes to break things down to a simple common equation, if you like."
"In this particular case, that's choosing a team that he believes will deliver the fastest car. So, if we're to ever attract Max, the first thing we have to do is make a fast car. There's no point in pipe-dreaming about anything else from now."
So, if Verstappen, like Newey, is ever to switch dark blues for British racing green coloured attire, then Aston Martin needs to buckle down and create a championship winning car. A tall request befitting of who is dubbed by many as one of the best drivers of all-time.
