Lionel Messi received a special gift from Franco Colapinto as a sign of admiration for his fellow countryman and football idol.
As widely known, Lionel Messi left European football several years ago, moving overseas to Inter Miami to likely conclude his career in the United States.
However, the Argentine legend, despite being far from major European competitions like La Liga and the Champions League, remains undeniably and forever an icon of world football, especially for Argentinians.
The same applies, of course, to Franco Colapinto, who brought Argentina back to Formula 1 last year—the first Argentine driver in the top class since Gaston Mazzacane, who last competed in 2001.
Messi is currently engaged with his team in the FIFA Club World Cup, a tournament inaugurated this year by FIFA that, much like the World Cup, will be held every four years.

Colapinto returns the favor to Messi

For the occasion, Colapinto wanted to make a special gesture for his idol, sending his signed helmet to Inter Miami’s training ground.
The helmet also featured the following message: “Thank you for so much joy and for all the lessons. All the best.”
The footballer seemed to truly appreciate the gift, judging by the big smile on his face.
A few months ago, Messi himself sent a signed Argentina jersey to Colapinto, who reacted by saying: “I can’t believe it, thank you so much. As you can see, it brought me a lot of luck. It has the signature of the best in the world. I’m going to frame this shirt. I’m super happy and thankful to you, Leo.”
