The Monaco Grand Prix weekend has officially commenced after the completion of the first free practice session. With traffic causing a busy track and a red flag within the first 10 minutes, here's how FP1 went:
Just 10 minutes into the session, Leclerc ran into the back of Stroll’s Aston Martin, who appeared to miss the blue flags. The collision damaged Leclerc’s front wing and scattered carbon fibre across the track causing a red flag to temporarily stop the session. The Ferrari was fixed with a floor change, meanwhile the Aston Martin had to retire for the session due to rear suspension damage and a gearbox change.
The Mclaren's impressed during this session, meanwhile both Red Bull's failed to stay within the top half of the leaderboard until the end of the session. This may be as both drivers were testing different set ups this session, Verstappen also took a new PU before the session. Both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton were on fire this session despite the former stating that the car wouldn't be competitive this weekend.
Despite being in P1 this session, Leclerc complained to his race engineer over his radio, "I think something is wrong with the car".
