Sky Sports commentator David Croft revealed an interesting backstory behind the boos directed at Lando Norris after the Mexican Grand Prix.

“When I was up there as the drivers were coming through on the track parade, there were a few boos for Lando Norris”
- David Croft

The British commentator pointed out during Sky Sports’ coverage that Mexican fans seemed to particularly appreciate Verstappen and Leclerc — but not the McLaren driver: “The crowd in the stadium loved to see Max Verstappen. They loved seeing Charles Leclerc.”

Croft went on to add that some of the boos had actually started well before the post-race interviews in the stadium (Norris was already booed after claiming pole) — specifically during the drivers’ parade: “When I was up there as the drivers were coming through on the track parade, there were a few boos for Lando Norris.”

He finally added: “There were a few more boos there (after the race) as well. What have the Mexican crowd got against Norris, I wonder?”

Sam Bird slams boos aimed at Norris in Mexico

Former McLaren driver Sam Bird also weighed in on one of the main talking points after the Mexican Grand Prix, describing the incident as “pretty poor.”

In Bird’s view, Norris’s dominant performance — capped off by a crushing win with a 30-second margin over second place — deserved applause, not boos. Moreover, the Briton dismissed any suggestion of McLaren favouring Norris, as had been speculated during the post-race press conference.

However, when asked about the incident himself, Norris didn’t seem too bothered — instead, he laughed it off, admitting he hadn’t paid much attention to it.
