Isack Hadjar had a few words for Carlos Sainz over his on-track behavior during qualifying at Monza, with the Frenchman set to start tomorrow’s race from sixteenth place.
After his breakthrough performance at Zandvoort last week, where he secured the first podium of his F1 career, Isack Hadjar will face the challenge of a big comeback in tomorrow’s Italian GP.
The Racing Bulls driver was eliminated in Q1, posting the sixteenth fastest time, while his teammate ended up even further back.
The Frenchman also appeared frustrated with Carlos Sainz’s on-track behavior, as the Spaniard overtook several cars—including Hadjar—during the final run in Q1, which, according to him, ruined his out-lap for the last attempt together with a mistake made in the decisive lap.
''It was just super annoying on the outlap, he was not going to push anyway so he was... I don't know why he was fighting so hard for track position,'' he told GPblog after qualifying.
''And he then just let me by on my lap, so I compromised the outlap for nothing. Later on I made a mistake, but honestly all of that doesn't matter because I'm starting last tomorrow.''
Hadjar himself confirmed that he will start tomorrow’s race from the pit lane due to power unit component changes, making his comeback even more challenging.
Hadjar nonetheless expressed his disappointment, believing that he could have achieved a much better result in qualifying: ''I could reach Q3. I think it's the first time in Q1 so much happened. Everything goes wrong and I made a mistake also on my lap.''
Finally, he said: ''It's always been really tight. I mean, it's how we like it. It's very close. And again, I hate going into qualifying knowing that anyway, I'm starting last round. So as well, the mindset was probably not great.''
