Lewis Hamilton sees it difficult to predict how Ferrari will fare this weekend in Mexico City while naming his targets for the rest of the season
"If I can help the team secure second in the constructors’ that would be a good end to the year."- Lewis Hamilton
While a podium only materialised for Charles Leclerc and not Hamilton, Ferrari had a positive weekend at the United States Grand Prix.
The Brit finished fourth ahead of championship leader Oscar Piastri and George Russell as well.
Looking ahead to the next weekend in Mexico City, Hamilton says he finds it hard to predict where Ferrari would be in the pecking order.
He said to GPblog: "Difficult [to know]. One weekend, Mercedes won the last race and then this race they are behind us.
"So it's really, really difficult to know why that is and why there is swings and roundabouts. But we're just hoping our car is better next weekend."
The seven-time world champion won the team's first-ever Sprint in China this season, but a Grand Prix podium is yet to happen for him this year.
"I’d just say consistency," Hamilton continued about what he needs to have something to show for this season as he adjusts to the new environment following his move from Mercedes.
He added: "Just if I can even get a podium at some point, just finish ahead of the Mercedes is our goal. If I can help the team secure second in the constructors’ that would be a good end to the year."
Entering the final five weekends, only 10 points separate Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing.
Constructors' | Teams | Points |
P1 (Champions) | McLaren | 678 |
P2 | Mercedes | 341 |
P3 | Ferrari | 334 |
P4 | Red Bull | 331 |
The Brit will not drive in FP1 in Mexico, as WEC driver Antonio Fuoco will sit in his car. Check out the complete list of drivers taking part in that session here!
