Being second in the standings, Lando Norris has to look both ways in the drivers' standings. The McLaren driver has an easy solution to that.
"It’s quite simple: just try and beat both drivers and life’s easy then!"- Lando Norris
Max Verstappen managed to gain 15 points in total on Lando Norris during the weekend at the Circuit of the Americas.
However, thanks to finishing second on Sunday, the Brit cut his gap to his teammate Oscar Piastri in the standings as well.
Sizing up his chances, Norris said: "I mean, [it] doesn’t really matter. I can only score the most points I can every weekend. So the more points I score, the better it is for both situations.
"It doesn’t matter. Nothing changes. I don’t have to do anything different for either-or.
The McLaren driver also has a straightforward solution: "It’s quite simple: just try and beat both drivers and life’s easy then!" he concluded.
Norris is 14 points behind Piastri and 26 points ahead of Verstappen with five Grands Prix and two Sprints to go this campaign.
Position | Drivers | Points |
P1 | Oscar Piastri | 346 |
P2 | Lando Norris | 332 |
P3 | Max Verstappen | 306 |
The season continues immediately this weekend with the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Looking ahead, Norris commented: "I don’t think it’ll change that much. It’s close between us and Red Bull — one weekend they're a little bit quicker, the next we’re a little bit faster.
"Mercedes was quickest in Singapore. So, yes, you can have many different things here, but we’re going to see."
