Lewis Hamilton is keeping expectations grounded despite Scuderia Ferrari posting the fastest time in Barcelona’s pre-season testing.
“We're under no illusions – we know we've got work to do.”- Lewis Hamilton
The 41-year-old, who set the pace during Friday’s session, acknowledged the enthusiasm within the Ferrari camp but emphasised that progress will require effort.
“Everyone's positive and incredibly enthusiastic. I mean, we're under no illusions – we know we've got work to do,” Hamilton said to F1.com.
The seven-time champion also pointed out the uncertainty in assessing Ferrari’s true position, given the mileage logged by other teams.
“Mercedes have done great running as well. I think Red Bull and Haas did some great running, too. So, we don't really know exactly where we are,” he added.

However, Hamilton maintained his optimism, noting that it offers an avenue for the Italian outfit to make a big leap from the challenges it experienced in 2025.
“But I think it's a solid first week, and we can really build from here. There may be some big leaps we need to take; development's going to be key. It's really about making sure we leave no stone unturned and being clear and concise with our communication and the decisions we make. It's going to take all of us being at our best, and I'm seeing that everyone is coming in with new energy this year, which is great,” he concluded.
Hamilton also admitted the Ferrari SF-26 challenger appears more enjoyable to drive compared to its 2025 machinery.
The British driver acknowledged it is a little oversteery but said it is quite easy to control – something he believes the previous ground-effect era cars didn’t have.
