In recent years, there has been increasing talk about a possible exit of Max Verstappen from Red Bull Racing. Next year Ford will be joining, but will the Dutchman see his contract through until 2028? Or does he have a lucrative option in the United States?
With the departure of Adrian Newey, among other Red Bull notables, it's evident that the Austrian top team is no longer the big favourite in Formula 1. Verstappen wants to win and grab championships, but he also has other racing ambitions.
He is looking towards championships like the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in the future. Red Bull and Ford are doing everything to keep the Dutchman at home. As Ford's CEO said, "Do we want Max to stay in the Red Bull-Ford for 2026 and beyond? Of course. He's a champion. He's a great person, and he lifts the whole team with him, but do we walk away if Max leaves the team? No. We are committed," he revealed to Autosport.

Future of Red Bull and Verstappen Uncertain

Rumour after rumour circulates about an early exit for Verstappen, but is he tired of racing? That doesn't seem to be in the cards yet. There's an option for Verstappen with many advantages, a new team, and an entrance to other racing classes. The switch beckons, though it remains speculation for now.
Ford wants to keep Verstappen until 2026, the year new regulations come into play. That will be a challenge: Verstappen seems to be having a hard time winning this championship, and next year is even more of a question. Additionally, the American Cadillac joins the Formula 1 group from 2026, where perhaps a top opportunity lies for the four-time world champion.

Verstappen to the United States?

It's uncertain whether Verstappen will see out his contract with Red Bull. That much is broadly concluded within the F1 paddock. It's speculative, but the Dutchman could make a remarkable move for his future: a future with Cadillac, with many benefits (and also some uncertainties).
It's no secret that everyone wants Verstappen. The four-time champion performs exceptionally, making practically every team's door open for him. But why make the switch? Cadillac holds a few aces up its sleeve, and Verstappen himself could also carve out a promising future.
If Verstappen decides to switch to Cadillac, despite the uncertainty of a new team's performance, there are plenty of benefits. A bag of money is no issue for the American racing team, headquartered in the US. Closer to the Piquet family. They also have a division in England, allowing the Dutchman to keep both sides of the family close - especially with his new private jet.

WEC for Verstappen?

The Piquet family, which Verstappen will soon be part of, lives in Brazil. Much closer to Cadillac's headquarters. Additionally, the American team, already active in F1 next year, can open doors for the Dutchman. Thus, Verstappen could eventually switch to the WEC through the team, a goal he has often discussed.
The Piquets would also have no objection to moving to the US, given the families could see each other more often. Verstappen's jet ensures he can also easily decide to spend time in Europe with his own family.

What Does Verstappen Have to Lose?

If Red Bull, which seems to be slowly falling apart, can no longer keep their promises, why should Verstappen stay? Again: these are speculations, but with a logical background. A new team, more opportunities to try other racing classes when he's done with Formula 1, and lesser distance with the in-laws.
If Verstappen wants to race WEC with Cadillac, he can do so in the top Hypercar class and thus, in theory, compete for magnificent victories, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Isn't Europe the right choice? Then he could also opt for endurance racing in the US: IMSA. Who wouldn't want a Max Verstappen in their car?

Verstappen Could Unexpectedly Switch

As the Ford CEO previously said, he's not fearful that Verstappen will leave the team, but as the season continues as it is, the fear will indeed grow. "Of course, you take actions to keep Max," said Ford. But yeah, Cadillac will do so too. If Verstappen presents himself to the team with all the above arguments and a commitment to a seat in, for example, the WEC or IMSA, the American team would be crazy not to make the Dutchman an offer. Money is definitely not an issue.
Additionally, an 'unexpected' switch isn't so far-fetched. Take Lewis Hamilton as an example. For years he swore loyalty to Mercedes, but now he races for Ferrari. Why shouldn't Verstappen think the same, now that Red Bull's performance is declining and the door to a new adventure and new steps in his racing career is opening?
