Helmut Marko shared his thoughts on Max Verstappen’s victory in Austin and his chances in the championship fight now.
“I should send him (Leclerc) some boxes of Red Bull. We have the fastest driver.”- Helmut Marko
Speaking to GPblog after the race, Marko jokingly thanked Leclerc in his own way for giving Norris a hard time and allowing Verstappen to pull away.
“I should send him some boxes of Red Bull I guess, but it was helpful because we were not under immediate pressure. We had the speed even if Lando would have been straight behind.”
Asked if there are any tracks where Verstappen cannot win, the Austrian added: “No, because now there are not any more McLaren or Mercedes tracks. We are talking about tens or thousands, the difference in the corners. And then we all know there is one difference and that's much.”
When asked whether he agreed with Andrea Stella’s view that Red Bull now has the best car, Marko replied: “No, I don’t agree. We have the fastest driver.”
Finally, when asked if it’s now time to bet on Verstappen for the title, the Austrian replied with a smile: “If you like to have a risk, yes.”
Verstappen was in a league of his own at the Circuit of the Americas, delivering a commanding drive to take victory in the United States Grand Prix. Controlling the pace from start to finish, the Dutchman left no room for doubt as he tightened the gap in the championship race.
Behind him, Lando Norris once again proved McLaren’s strong form with a confident run to second, while Charles Leclerc brought Ferrari back onto the podium after an intense mid-race scrap between the two. Lewis Hamilton narrowly missed out on the top three but still came away with a solid fourth-place finish after a clean and consistent drive.
