Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle has named who he believes was the best driver of the 2025 season.

“You'd have to say Max is still the best driver on the grid”

The British commentator had no doubts in picking Max Verstappen as the driver who showcased the best this year, despite missing out on the title at the final race, while also acknowledging the great work of newly crowned world champion Lando Norris.

“That would be Max,” he told Motor Sport. “Lando did a super job. He got really strong in the head, drove beautifully. Some of the races that he won were absolutely dominated in a style I've seen very few drivers do in the sort of 40-odd years I've been around F1. But you'd have to say Max is still the best driver on the grid.”

The four-time world champion, despite ultimately losing the title, still ended the season with the highest number of wins and poles, equalling Lewis Hamilton in second place in that statistic.

Brundle names one key Piastri trait Norris still lacks despite title win

The biggest disappointment in the title fight was certainly Oscar Piastri. The Australian led for almost the entire season, only to suffer an inexplicable slump after his Zandvoort win, ultimately abandoning his championship hopes in Abu Dhabi.

In contrast, Norris took command after the Dutch Grand Prix retirement, finishing the season strongly and ultimately claiming the first title of his career.

According to Brundle, Piastri still falls short against his team-mate due to one particular factor.
