Max Verstappen finished the second free practice with a fifth-place spot. Crossing the finish line more than four-tenths behind Oscar Piastri, the Dutchman sees there is still plenty of work to be done to contest for the prizes.
Verstappen tries new things on his car
In Imola, Verstappen wanted to catch up with the competition and therefore tried a number of new things. These do not yet seem to be fully effective: ‘We’ve tried a lot of new stuff, some work a bit better, but overall, we’re not fast enough,’ Verstappen said to verstappen.com

Especially the race pace of McLaren was impressive, Verstappen also experienced how fast the team of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris is. "Expectations are not high for tomorrow. We still have quite some work to do. The balance needs to improve to go faster, the same goes for the long runs. Verstappen has had a challenging weekend so far, struggling in both free practices and even experiencing a nut loose in his cockpit during the second free practice. Former world champion Jacques Villeneuve spoke out about the incident and points to Red Bull.
