In the F1 Belgian Grand Prix Lando Norris had the opportunity to balance the championship scale with teammate Oscar Piastri. However that was not to be. Former F1 champion believes that the title battle between the two will be decided elsewhere other than the track.
Piastri quickly dispatched Norris at the start and went on to win the race having led the majority of the Belgian Grand Prix from his British teammate, earning him praise from Rosber on Sky Sports' the F1 Show podcast.
"Oscar is super strong. I mean, he surprised me because we all knew he was a great driver, but last year Lando still had the edge."
"And this year Oscar is just incredibly solid and strong and fast. And there's no weaknesses there. I mean, what's his weakness?", Rosberg wondered.
With his Belgian Grand Prix win Piastri has surpassed legends like Alan Jones and Jack Brabham as the winningest Australian driver in the history of Formula One with six success to his name in the 2025 F1 season.
The absence of weaknesses makes the title battle even more daunting for Norris, Rosberg believes. "Because Lando does have weaknesses. You saw them again in Spa. You saw them at the restarts. He made three big mistakes in, in trying to catch Oscar three times."
Mistakes the German states would not be made by Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen or Piastri himself.
It has often been said Norris still has a pace advantage over Piastri, something Rosberg categorically denies.
"Well, you can't really say that Lando is a smidge quicker anymore," the former F1 champion stated.
"At some point, we need to stop saying that because there's no basis to that anymore. Oscar has just been extremely quick always. I see them kind of on a par."
So, Rosberg concludes that the outcome of the championship fight between both McLaren drivers will be determined off the track.
"For me, the championship is going to be decided in Lando's head. That's my kind of impression, unfortunately."
In the championship Piastri has edged further away from Norris. Where the gap stood at naught but 7 points after the British Grand Prix, the post-Belgian Grand Prix outcome has seen the difference increase to 16 points.
