On the media day preceding the race weekend in Hungary, the rumors surrounding Max Verstappen's future came to an end. The Dutchman confirmed that he will drive for Red Bull until 2026. The reaction of team manager Laurent Mekies was eagerly awaited, and the Frenchman has now responded.
As personally confirmed last Thursday, Max Verstappen will remain with Red Bull next year as well, putting an end to the persistent rumors linking him to Mercedes for a potential move to Toto Wolff’s team.
The news will no doubt please Laurent Mekies, who is counting heavily on the Dutchman for the new era of the Milton Keynes-based team.
In conversation with The Inside Track, the Frenchman was asked whether this is a boost for Red Bull: ''Of course it is. There is a huge effort from everyone at the factory on several fronts, trying to improve the '25 car, the '26 projects, the 26 powertrain.''
''The company is flat out. Our people have been pushing for months, trying to find the right compromise.''
''Obviously we also had the shock news a few a couple of weeks ago and having that sort of renewed commitment is something that is the right sign to get everyone to give even more tomorrow.''
Although the atmosphere within the team appears positive, there's no denying that on-track performance still needs serious improvement.
The Hungarian Grand Prix marks the final race before the summer break, and Max Verstappen will be hoping to bounce back after a frustrating Friday. Red Bull too is hoping for improvement, but technical director Pierre Waché had alarming news.
