Lando Norris finished qualifying in P7, after he failed to live up to his car's potential, which he sees as lacking its usual advantage. What does Norris say of his P7 at the line? "Not ideal. Just too many mistakes," he said to Sky Sports.
"I hit the wall in the last lap. I had confidence, the car felt good today, I just made too many mistakes," added the British driver who will start alongside Charles Leclerc.
Can a recovery race lead to a win for Norris?
After all, the McLaren is judged by many to be the best car overall. Will the MCL39's race pace help Norris take the win in Canada?
"It's looked good but it's not been as good as Max. We clearly don't have our advantage around this track comparing to normal, it's a lot more of a track where you just need very good ride and just ability to take kerbs and bumps and very low grip."
"It's still good, the car was quick. Maybe the medium tyre was a bit quicker at the end of qualifying. I think our pace is good enough it's just I'm a bit too far back again," he concluded.
Norris' teammate, Oscar Piastri finished in P3 behind George Russell and Max Verstappen at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
This means, for only the second time in 2025, a McLaren driver will not be on the first row of the grid. The only other occasions that happened this campaign was during the Sprint of the Chinese Grand Prix.
