Lando Norris has stated that his McLaren team are now facing 'bizarre' scrutiny as the Woking-based squad has become the team to beat in Formula 1. Although the team dynamic remains the same, Norris is certain that there is no time to relax. In just a year, McLaren's shift from underdogs to pacesetters has been nothing short of remarkable. An awful lot has changed at the team since McLaren and Norris' victory at the 2024
Miami Grand Prix. They won the constructors title last year and are already on top by a considerable margin in 2025.
With that, however, comes changes inside and outside of the team. Perceptions are different now that they are at the top, but Norris is certain that it's a 'natural evolution' at McLaren.
"I think for the majority it’s been a natural evolution. The team has still improved a lot, even since last year, in terms of how we work – the car has improved, the obvious things have improved – but the way the team performs has improved quite a good amount and that has to continue. That’s the main thing – when you get to the top, there’s no time to relax. And that’s all because of the scrutiny of other people talking and claiming things and coming up with bizarre stuff at times. So it’s more about dealing with the scrutiny," The Brit stated.

McLaren still needs to be more 'precise'
Norris sits second in the driver's championship, 16 points behind teammate Oscar Piastri who has won the last three races consecutively. Despite their top position, there are always things that can be improved.
"The team has to be even more precise with things, not make mistakes or do any silly little things. For the majority, it’s the same guys and girls all doing their jobs and trying to get the most out of the car. It’s more the external stuff that changes, but that’s out of your control. They’re doing a very good job of dealing with that and carrying on with what they’ve got."
