Lando Norris secured pole position for the
Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort but will have
Max Verstappen to contend with at the start as
Oscar Piastri could not get onto the front row of the grid. The Australian has made it clear which area he is targeting but admits he is conscious about how he could make life easier for
McLaren.
During the press conference, Norris and Piastri discussed team orders. Norris cannot count on Piastri playing a 'wingman' role in the
Dutch Grand Prix to help him close down the gap on Verstappen as the two confirmed they are free to race each other. The only rule is that they can't crash together.
Will Piastri make life easier for McLaren?
Norris has struggled at the start of recent Grands Prix. The Brit has often lost places, including when he was on pole at the
Hungarian Grand Prix. Piastri is looking to target this.
"If I can get myself into the lead then that works well for me. The start is always a good opportunity to make up ground," Piastri said before acknowledging that might make it harder for
McLaren.
"Obviously, I want to finish as high as I can, and if I can get into second then obviously that makes life a little bit more straightforward for the team. I'm not going to do anything specific to try and make that happen. I want to try and win the race myself, and let's see what I can try and do," Piastri concluded.
