Oscar Piastri has given his verdict on a possible McLaren team order at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

“I think it makes a lot of sense to talk about that one before the race.”

Speaking with GPblog after Abu Dhabi Grand Prix qualifying, the Australian driver stated he still doesn’t know what is expected of him regarding possible team orders ahead of the main race.

“I don't know exactly what is expected of me yet, but until either Lando or Max crosses the line in front of me, I still have a chance of winning the title, so we'll see how the race pans out,” he began.

Piastri, however, concluded that it would be ideal for the team to discuss such matters ahead of the race start on Sunday.

“I'm sure we will talk about it. I think it makes a lot of sense to talk about that one before the race,” he concluded.

Piastri remains in the drivers’ championship, albeit 16 points behind teammate Lando Norris. The McLaren pair are also split by Max Verstappen, who stormed to pole for the Abu Dhabi race.

Norris will welcome McLaren team orders

Earlier, Norris admitted he would be pleased with a possible team order decision at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The British driver, despite revealing to the media that the team has not had such a conversation so far, stated it would be nice if one were imposed as he continues his chase for a maiden Formula 1 drivers’ crown.
