According to former team manager and current F1 analyst Peter Windsor, Ferrari would need three specific things to return to its former glory.
It seems almost unbelievable to even think about it for the most successful team in Formula 1 history, yet Ferrari hasn’t won a title since way back in 2008, when Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen delivered the Constructors’ Championship to the Maranello-based squad.
Since then, the Italian team has come close to glory on several occasions, but has never quite managed to seal the deal.
Just think of the fierce rivalry between Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel from 2010 to 2013, with the latter managing to outsmart the Spanish driver twice in season finales. Or the intense battles between Vettel and Lewis Hamilton during the Mercedes vs Ferrari era. All hard-fought duels that, in the end, left the Prancing Horse empty-handed.
Even last year, despite having a competitive car, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were unable to bring the Constructors’ title back to Maranello, further extending the drought. So, what does Ferrari need to return to its former glory?
According to former team manager and current F1 analyst Peter Windsor, Ferrari would need three specific things to overturn misfortune: ''First, I would make sure they didn't fire me after one year when they realized that I was making a lot of changes and I could have a 10 year contract. That'd be the first one'', the Briton ironically said via his YouTube channel.
''I suppose you'd have to protect yourself. The second one would be, well, it's not drivers, obviously. I think, you know, I would obviously look to get, I think I would look to get Carlos Sainz back at Ferrari as sooner rather than later alongside Charles Leclerc. I think it was a very good team. I don't think it's too late for those two guys to get back together again''.

Ferrari should try signing Newey?

The third thing, according to Windsor, would be to try to convince Adrian Newey to strengthen the Italian team’s technical staff.
''Obviously it's just all about the car after that. And I would do all I could to try to get Adrian Newey again out of his Aston Martin contract. See how much money I actually had in the kitty at Ferrari, Fiat or wherever still answers, whatever it is to, to buy Adrian out of that and get him to do that''.
''And if not, you'd have to go for somebody like Peter Prodromou at McLaren and Rob Marshall''.
''You have to take the people that are doing a really good job at the moment and just sort of saying, right, this is it. We have to make this happen. And how do we do it? So you'd focus on very good people. And it's not necessarily the teams that are doing a lot of winning''.
''So you can put together a nice team, but you probably need to do quite a lot of changes on the technical side just to make it work''.
