Like all other drivers Daniel Ricciardo had to get used to the car. It has been a month since the last time the drivers were in a car. This took some getting used to, also for the experienced Ricciardo.
Speaking to formula1.com the Australian says that McLaren had a hard time on Friday with the softer tyre and that he himself was searching for rhythm.
"It's a bit difficult sometimes after a holiday, but it was really nice to be back in the car. I enjoyed it, and I think this circuit is fun too, so that helps me get excited. Our performance on the soft tyre wasn't great, but I think we have a good understanding of why, so I wouldn't say I'm worried about today's times. On the hard tyre it was pretty good."
And that's ultimately what Friday is all about. "We made some steps with the set-up, so we're going to try to make some more steps tonight and learn some more. It was a stable day. We avoided the rain for the most part, so we'll see what happens tomorrow."
Ricciardo will be hoping that his second half of the season will be a little smoother than his first, in which he was nowhere near the performance of teammate Lando Norris.
