Spotted by a fan at an airport, Daniel Ricciardo agreed to a brief impromptu interview, revealing his future career plans and what it has meant to him to have fulfilled his dream of becoming a racing driver.
It’s been nearly a year since the 2024 Singapore GP, the last race in Daniel Ricciardo’s Formula 1 career so far.
The Australian driver, after temporarily hanging up his helmet in 2022 following an unsuccessful stint with McLaren, was given a second chance to start fresh with Racing Bulls, aiming to return to Red Bull alongside Max Verstappen.
However, results have not been what hoped, asiRde from a few occasional flashes of brilliance, with Daniel sidelined even before the end of the 2024 season in favor of Liam Lawson.
Since then, the Perth native has almost completely disappeared from the public eye, enjoying his time away from the spotlight.
In a video that has been circulating on social media in recent hours, Daniel was stopped by a fan at Los Angeles’ LAX airport and agreed to a brief impromptu interview.
He took the opportunity to explain what it has meant to him to have fulfilled his dream of becoming a racing driver: ''It’s a dream and you think about it as a kid, and then when you’re there and you make it, you’re like, ‘Oh wow'
“It happens very quick. But, obviously, I’m very appreciative for the career I had and very grateful to do it that long.”
“The second half of my life I’ll try and find that another way, I guess,” Daniel finally added in response to a question about how the adrenaline of racing and being a driver can’t be matched by anything else, effectively closing the door on a third return to Formula 1.
