George Russell admitted he now feels ready to fight for the world championship after securing his second win of the season in Singapore.

“I feel ready to fight for a championship. I feel ready to take it to the next step”

Speaking in the post-race press conference, Russell, who is closing in on a new Mercedes contract said: “This track has not been my best friend over the years and that's often been through my own doing, but as I said yesterday, I'm a very different driver today to the one I was a couple of years ago.

"I feel more complete, more confident. I know exactly what I need to do in given circumstances.

He then added: “Of course, I was nervous before the race, as you'd expect, but I didn't feel any additional nerves or any additional pressure. It just felt like another race. I knew I had a chance to win, and I felt comfortable with that. So, I said it for a while, I feel ready to fight for a championship. I feel ready to take it to the next step.”

Russell's impressive 2025 season so far

After already giving Lewis Hamilton a tough challenge during their three years together at Mercedes, the Briton has taken a clear step forward this season — not only in terms of pace but also in consistency over a full season.

Russell claimed his second win of the year at Marina Bay, a circuit where he’s made several mistakes in the past, including the infamous 2023 crash that cost him a chance at the victory on the final lap.

Alongside that, he’s collected seven podiums and two pole positions, and today’s 25 points reasserts his P4 in the Drivers’ Championship.
