Guenther Steiner has tipped Carlos Sainz for a potential move to Aston Martin following an impressive debut season with Williams.
“…Aston Martin presents Sainz’s best opportunities moving forward.”- Guenther Steiner
The 60-year-old former Haas F1 team principal praised Sainz’s campaign, noting that several teams are now keeping a close eye on the Spaniard after his strong performances with the Grove-based outfit.
“Some teams are keeping an eye on him now, even if they won’t admit it. It’s as if they questioned whether they wanted Carlos in a championship fight. Sometimes these decisions are made, and you can’t go back,” Steiner said via the Red Flag podcast.
The former Haas F1 team boss, however, admitted that a move back to the current frontrunning outfit would be a tall order considering his age.

“I think it will be very difficult to move up unless you’re a rookie. There are opportunities out there. A return to Ferrari seems highly unlikely, as does a switch to Red Bull or Mercedes. But there’s always a chance with one of the other teams that are showing great promise,” he added.
Steiner also hinted at a switch to Aston Martin, where Sainz could team up with team principal Adrian Newey as a replacement for fellow Spaniard Fernando Alonso.
“I would say Williams or Aston Martin present Sainz’s best opportunities moving forward. Honestly, I don’t believe Fernando can race for another five years. He will likely have one more year, maybe two at best.”
Sainz enjoyed a remarkable 2025 campaign with the Williams team. The former Ferrari driver racked up two Grand Prix podiums as well as a sprint podium for the Grove-based outfit.
Sainz was also the only driver to achieve all his pre-2025 season predictions. The four-time race winner had forecast that he would improve the Williams outfit.
He also predicted he would record a podium with the team, which he achieved two.
