Kimi Antonelli surprised fans and spectators alike when he managed to grab pole position during the Miami Grand Prix sprint qualifying. But before that, Oliver Bearman already knew Antonelli was destined for greatness.
Bearman and Antonelli are close friends and former teammates. The two both raced for Prema in Formula 2.

Bearman on Antonelli's speed

Speaking to GPBlog and others in Miami, Bearman said, "We pushed each other forward and had a tough season together, but what was clear was his speed."
"I had no doubt about him getting into Formula 1."
While Antonelli has not yet graced the podium like his teammate, George Russell, he has come close.
"He's up against a great teammate and a very quick one, but he's already very close to George. But like I said, I'm not surprised. I think it's only a matter of time. He's very talented."

Bearman benefited greatly from his learning year

Bearman is also classified as a rookie alongside Antonelli. However, Bearman was able to complete three F1 races last year.
"I've had a lot of experiences over the years now with Ferrari with my TPC running, but also just being in the track as a reserved driver last year."
He continued, "Listening to all of the debriefs and all of the comments from the drivers, how they articulate what they're feeling has been quite useful for me, and even being a bit behind the scenes on set up meetings."
"Understanding what direction they tend to take with the car, and based on limitations and stuff like that, I've been able to learn quite a lot, so that's been useful."
