Max Verstappen and his girlfriend, Kelly Piquet, welcomed their first child together last spring. Their daughter, Lily, was born at the end of May. Soon, Kelly’s brother, Nelson Piquet Jr., will also become a parent. His wife, Patsy Zurita Piquet, shared on Instagram how she revealed the news to him.
Nelson Jr. is expecting a daughter, just like his sister earlier this year. On Brazilian Father’s Day, when Piquet Jr. paid tribute to his father, Nelson Sr., he also reflected on his own upcoming role as a parent. The Brazilian spoke about the responsibilities of fatherhood, saying that he has the duty to take care of his daughter because she “can’t do it alone.”

In a video on Instagram, Piquet Jr.’s wife showed how she surprised him with the news. Patsy handed him a package containing a positive pregnancy test. At first, Piquet Jr. was left speechless, but after realizing what it was, he became overjoyed and immediately embraced his wife. Overcome with emotion, Zurita Piquet was seen shedding a tear, but obviously also Nelson Jr. was totally captured by the news of his uncoming daughter.

Just like his brother-in-law, Max Verstappen, Nelson Piquet Jr. was also a Formula 1 driver in the past. He competed for Renault over two seasons, with his best result being a second place at the German Grand Prix in 2008. After Renault decided to drop him from his seat, Piquet Jr. revealed that he had deliberately crashed during the Singapore Grand Prix in 2008, which allowed his teammate Fernando Alonso to win.
Piquet Jr. also competed in Formula E, and with success. Driving for China Racing alongside teammate Ho-Pin Tung, he won the championship in the 2014-2015 season, becoming the very first Formula E champion in history.
